Four Narrabri-trained pacers were in action at a Tamworth Harness Racing Club TAB meeting on Thursday evening.

Three of those were trained by Jarred Hetherington, and the other by Peter Shepherdson.

Two of the four raced to top-three finishes.

The Shepherdson-trained pacer was Kid Montana which lined up from the second row in race three of the 10-race meeting, driven by Chris Shepherdson. He placed second in the Tamworth Harness Racing Club Golden Guitar Consolation race.

Early in the race Kid Montana was running eighth in the field of 10, but on his first run down the home straight he made a move and advanced to second place at the first run past the finish post.

A lap later when the bell sounded Kid Montana was still second, one out running next to $3.60 favourite Misterriodejaneiro which was cruising in the inside lane.

Half a lap later with 400 metres left to run Kid Montana had established a healthy lead heading into the final turn.

When he entered the final turn he was in front by 10 metres ahead of the Dean Chappel-trained and driven Burmach.

However, the Darren Elder-trained, Brad Elder-driven Dawn Magic overtook Burmach on the outside in the final turn to enter the final straight in second.

With 200 metres to go Kid Montana still had a healthy lead but Dawn Magic stormed home to edge out the Narrabri pacer by a head.

The second-place finish was Kid Montana’s third of the current season to go with a win and two third-place finishes.
