NDCA first XI defeats Inverell at Collins Park in War Vets round two nailbiter

Narrabri District Cricket Association first XI captain Lachlan Cameron scored a match-high 60 in his side’s one-wicket win against Inverell at Collins Park on Sunday in round two of the 2018-19 War Vets Cup campaign.
The Narrabri District Cricket Association’s first XI welcomed Inverell to town on Sunday for a War Veterans Cup grand final rematch.
It was a roller coaster ride for the home players and fans as the Pink Slugs fought off a determined Inverell outfit to win by just one wicket, despite looking set to win comfortably several times during the match.
Narrabri bowled first at Collins Park after Inverell won the toss.
The visitors reached 160 before Narrabri took its final wicket in the 41st over.
Narrabri then chased that down for the loss of nine wickets to secure a one-wicket victory.
Following a round one loss against Gunnedah two weeks earlier, Narrabri entered the round two match needing to win to keep its grand final qualification chances in its hands.
The victory took the Pink Slugs to second place on the War Veterans Cup ladder.
They trail fellow round two winners Gunnedah by a win, and are equal on points with Tamworth.
Narrabri has the chance to move a win clear of Tamworth in round three when the two sides meet.
That game will be played at Collins Park on December 9.
Whoever wins that match will join Gunnedah at the top of the table, with the undefeated leaders sitting out of round three with the bye.
