Narrabri Rural Fire Brigade crews have been busy over the past few days and gave particular praise to the work of their all-female crew.

Jacqueline Hagar, Shauna Cassidy and Megan Davies attended the scene of a motor vehicle accident which occurred on the Newell Highway, on Sunday.

Narrabri RFS crews were also alerted to reports of a grass fire 15 kilometres north of Narrabri at Bobbiwaa Creek, on Sunday afternoon.

Phil Davies, senior deputy captain of Narrabri Brigade said crews received another call-out when they were on their way to the Bobbiwaa Creek grass fire.

“This time south of Narrabri at Bohena Creek. A number of units continued north while two trucks were redirected to the Bohena Creek fire,” said Mr Davies.

Mr Davies said the first unit to arrive at Bohena Creek found a “large going fire” that was working into the tops of the trees.

“They immediately identified any potential threat to property, and commenced fire fighting operations, while calling in additional resources.

“The fire also caused the closure of the Newell Highway for several hours.

Mr Davies said a total of eight RFS units from Narrabri and Wee Waa assisted in bringing the fire under control by early Sunday evening.
