The Wilga Park power station, fuelled by Pilliga natural gas, will soon be generating enough electricity for the equivalent of 32,120 homes.
“Installation of two 3 MWh reciprocating gas engine generators now underway will lift the output by more than 37 percent from 16MWh to 22MWh” a Santos spokesperson said.
The new generators are scheduled to be in operation by the beginning of August.
The Wilga Park power station is owned by Santos and joint venture partner EnergyAustralia.
EnergyAustralia is an electricity generation, electricity and gas retailing private company in Australia with a portfolio of generating sites using thermal coal, natural gas, hydro-electric, solar energy and wind power.
“The power station has been providing electricity to the NSW grid at a maximum of 12 megawatts per hour (MWh) since April 2014, with an existing approval for the staged expansion and operation of the facility for up to 40MWh” Santos said.
“Electricity from Wilga Park feeds into the north-west NSW mains grid on the Walgett/Brewarrina line, and at 12MWh has been supplying the equivalent of more than 17,500 average households.
