Mark Coulton’s election victory in the seat of Parkes wasn’t surprising but the Coalition’s return to power for a third term in government, appeared to even surprise the Prime Minister Scott Morrison who described the Federal election win as a ‘miracle’.
“I have always believed in miracles,” Mr Morrison said on Saturday night.
“Tonight is about every single Australian who depends on their Government to put them first.”
Counting was still underway at the time of going to print but ABC election analyst Antony Green was predicting the Coalition would form majority government with 77 seats to Labor’s 68.
The National Party looks set to retain its 16 seats in the lower house including a clear victory for Mark Coulton who has claimed more than half the votes counted so far in the seat of Parkes.
He said he was ‘honoured’ to have been re-elected.
“The people of the Parkes electorate have backed me for a fifth time as their local member, and I couldn’t be more proud.
“Likewise, I am thrilled that we have achieved an excellent outcome nationally, with the Coalition forming government again.
“Representing the people and communities that reside in half of New South Wales is by no means a small feat, and it is a role I have taken with utmost humility for the past 11 or so years,” said Mr Coulton.
