What a weekend for the Narrabri Rugby Club.

At Dangar Park on Saturday the club welcomed Inverell to town and while the home crowd unfortunately missed out on cheering on the second grade men following the Highlanders’ forfeit, the club’s first grade and women’s sevens teams well and truly made up for that with entertaining victories.

In the main game Narrabri celebrated Sam Kahl’s 100th game in style as it smashed Inverell 53-5 to move into second place on the Central North Rugby Union first grade ladder after six rounds.

That was after the Blue Boars’ women’s sevens side played its first two home matches of the season, both of which it won against Inverell.

In the first match Narrabri was victorious 19-5 before winning a nailbiting second game 19-17 .

The Blue Boars’ under-19s side was also in action on the day, downed by the Pirates 41-16.

In the first grade contest the Blue Boars’ backline had a field day against the Highlanders.

After second rower Connor Parkes opened the scoring with a try in the sixth minute the starting backline went wild, scoring the next six tries.

Winger James Albert and fullback Michael Cain both raced over for doubles while five-eight Jydon Hill and inside centre Jake Packer also went over for one each.

The other try was scored by substitute Clayton Pursche who crossed for the last try of the game after the siren had sounded.

On his birthday Cain slotted five conversions from seven attempts and kicked one penalty goal which saw him finish the match with a total of 23 points.

While the backline dominated the points on the scoreboard, two Narrabri forwards picked up CNRU best and fairest points.

Sam Knight was awarded the three points for a standout performance, while milestone man Sam Kahl earned one.

Kahl first played under-18s for the Blue Boars in 2007 before making his first grade debut in his first year out of school in 2010.

On Saturday he joined his father (and club president) James Kahl (154 games) and brother Daniel Kahl (106* games) in the 100 club and produced a typical Sam Kahl performance, running hard and making tackle after tackle for the entire 80 minutes of the match.

The round six contest started with a Blue Boars onslaught as the home side spent most of the first five minutes inside its attaching 22.
