The Narrabri Rugby Club’s women’s sevens side has enjoyed a successful start to the 2019 Central North Rugby Union season, winning four of its first six games.

After losing its first two matches in round two away from home against Gunnedah, the Blue Boars have won four games in a row.

Two of those wins were on Saturday when the side ran onto Dangar Park for its first home games of the year.

It took on 2018 grand final winners Inverell and picked up four points in both matches to leapfrog several teams including the Highlanders to move into third place on the table.

Narrabri won its first game 19-12 before defeating a fast-finishing Inverell 19-17 in game two.

In the side’s first match, which kicked off the day for the club, the Blue Boars struck first when Tenayah Woodward darted down the left sideline, running 50 metres to score the first try of the game inside the first 30 seconds.

After scoring under the posts Woodward converted her own try to make the score 7-0.

In the fifth minute Woodward made the score 12-0 to the home side when she broke the line 30 metres out and sprinted away to dive over for her second try.

The score remained 12-0 when the half time siren sounded, and when the sides made their way back onto the field they both pushed hard for the first try of the second stanza.

It was the visitors which crossed first following a break 40 metres out which led to a try to make the score 12-5 with three minutes to go.

With 30 seconds remaining the Blue Boars sealed the win when April Smith ran onto a Daisy Robinson pass to score.

Smith converted the try to make the final score 19-5 to the home team.

In the second game the Blue Boars started right where they left off as Smith crossed for the first try of the game in the third minute after running through a hole close to the line following a scrum.
