Santos’ managing director and chief executive officer Kevin Gallagher reaffirmed his commitment that ‘every molecule of natural gas from the Narrabri Gas Project will go to the domestic market’ when he and senior executives visited Narrabri on Tuesday.
“That’s enough gas to supply up to half of NSW’s current needs,” he said.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from east coast manufacturers and we’ve already signed non-binding Memoranda of Understanding with Brickworks and Weston Energy for the supply of Narrabri gas to commercial and industrial customers across the state.
“NSW manufacturers are very interested in sourcing gas from Narrabri because it will always be cheaper than gas imported from other states or from overseas,” Mr Gallagher said.
“Narrabri gas could also support new industries here in Narrabri with Santos also entering a Memorandum of Understanding with Perdaman, a fertiliser producer looking at a new plant that would create hundreds of construction and ongoing local jobs and small business opportunities.”
Mr Gallagher and senior Santos executives visited Narrabri to inspect the new generators being installed at the Wilga Park Power Station and meet staff and community members.
