Narrabri FC won its ninth straight match of the Namoi Soccer League match season on Saturday in Moree as it beat Moree Services FC One 2-1.
The round 12 clash was filled with drama from the outset and lived up to the expectations of a massive
top-of-the-table match.
Narrabri FC started the contest on the front foot scoring in the second minute through Zac Lauritsen who netted at the back stick from a Danny Laws corner.
Moree One regained its composure and held out Narrabri FC for the remainder of the half with both sides having a couple of opportunities to score.
Narrabri eventually found its second goal late on in the second half when Colby Williams was taken down inside the area.
The side’s leading goal scorer thumped home the penalty to score his and Narrabri FC’s second goal of the contest and give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Moree hit back late when it earned and converted a penalty in the 80th minute and the hosts pushed hard for an equaliser.
With two minutes left in the contest Narrabri FC conceded another penalty and it looked all but certain that the winning streak would be snapped in the final moments of the match.
But Narrabri FC goalkeeper and captain Zaac Brayshaw stood up for his side and made a terrific diving save to his right before getting back up off the ground and saving a second attempt.
The heroics of Brayshaw maintained FC’s hold on the top of the Namoi Soccer League table and kept their impressive win streak alive, stretching it to nine.
Fellow Narrabri side Crossroads Eleven FC also played at Moree on Saturday but was unable to get the better of Moree Services FC Two in the sides’ round 12 clash, being defeated 5-0.
