The Narrabri Rugby Club travelled for its last away day of the 2019 Central North Rugby Union regular season on Saturday when it took on Quirindi in the second last round of the season.
The Blue Boars challenged the Lions in first grade, second grade and women’s sevens in round 17.
The visitors won two of those four matches as the Narrabri club prevailed in both first and second grade.
The first grade side won 29-10 after the second grade team was victorious 55-5.
The women’s sevens team went down 29-17 in its first game before drawing 19-all with Quirindi in game two.
Also playing on Saturday were the Narrabri Rugby Club’s under-19s team which travelled to Barraba to challenge the Rams 19s, losing 41-22.
Narrabri’s first grade win was its seventh in a row as it continued its perfect run in the second half of the season.
It was the fifth match of that seven-game run that the Blue Boars won away from home.
Narrabri outscored the home side five tries to one in that contest and two conversions to one.
The Lions kicked one penalty goal which accounted for its other three points.
Narrabri halves Jydon Hill and Ben Maunder crossed for the visiting team’s two first half tries, both of which Cain converted.
The only other first half points came from the boot of the home side’s Ben Grant whose penalty goal made the half-time score 14-3 to Narrabri.
In the second stanza Daniel Kahl went over for a try and fullback Michael Cain bagged the fourth and fifth five-pointers.
The bonus point victory meant that the Narrabri men remained in second place on the CNRU first grade ladder.
Third-placed Moree also picked up five points in round 17 as it sat out with the bye so it remains two points behind the Blue Boars heading into the pair’s final round clash this Saturday at Dangar Park.
