When the final match ended and the dust finally settled the 2019 Galloping Gully Polocrosse Club Carnival was an outstanding weekend.

The annual two-day carnival was held at the club’s home ground Murrumbilla.

The weekend displayed the region’s top polocrosse athletes playing in fierce competition and showcased the skill and potential of the up-and-coming generation of riders.

Gully made the most of its home ground advantage by winning both the A-grade open and A-grade women’s competitions at the carnival.

The freezing weather and howling wind did not stop the riders from enjoying a great weekend of polocrosse with 48 teams competing across 11 divisions.

Narrabri Shire teams Galloping Gully Polocrosse Club, Narrabri Polocrosse Club and Cubbaroo Polocrosse Club were all represented at the carnival by various teams in numerous divisions.

The Polocrosse wasn’t the only action of the weekend with the annual Galloping Gully rooster race taking place on Saturday afternoon.

Galloping Gully Polocrosse Club president Lach Melbourne said the event was fantastic and he was impressed by the quality of polocrosse despite the weather conditions.

“It was a really good weekend,” he said.

“The fields held up really well. We had some drama with the wind but everyone pitched in and made it great.

“It probably hindered the crowd a little bit because it wasn’t a great weekend to spectate.

“But we didn’t have any accidents, everything ran very smoothly which made for a great weekend.”
