Idemitsu Australia Resources’ Boggabri Coal said it is in negotiations with employees regarding a new enterprise agreement.

The statement’s release follows last week’s decision by Boggabri coal miners to take strike action.

The Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union said the decision to strike was driven by its concerns around ‘unfair rosters, pay and conditions’.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Idemitsu Resources Australia said, “The remarks made by the CFMMEU misrepresent the bargaining discussions which have occurred in our meetings.

“Boggabri Coal has been meeting with workforce representatives since April this year and in our most recent meeting last week the company were actively bargaining in good faith and progressing forward.

“The decision by the CFMMEU to have its members take strike action, immediately before our next scheduled meeting was totally unexpected.

“As the CFMMEU clearly know, Boggabri Coal has never proposed ‘7 on, 7 off’ or ‘fly-in, fly-out’ arrangements under our enterprise agreement and these arrangements are not being considered or proposed.

“We remain fully committed to remaining a major local employer, strongly contributing to our local and regional communities.

“Furthermore, pay rates at the Boggabri Coal mine are in line with those at other open cut coal operations in the Gunnedah basin.”
