Narrabri Shire’s proposed industrial and logistics hub will now be known as the Northern NSW Inland Port.

The name embraces the vision and future role of the site as a major strategic centre with connectivity locally, regionally and nationally, linked by road and rail to east coast ports and West Australia.

The prospectus for the Northern NSW Inland Port was released on Friday at a launch event hosted by Narrabri Shire Council and attended by guests including the NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro and representatives from across the spectrum of road, rail and port logistics industries, local businesses, diverse industries and government departments.

The Northern NSW Inland Port is planned for a 242 hectare site on the Culgoora Road seven kilometres from Narrabri town centre.

The prospectus was released by the mayor Cathy Redding.

“Narrabri Shire Council has been working for two years on the proposal for an industrial and logistics hub that meets the needs of the northern inland region and takes advantage of our key strategic location on the Inland Rail route and our accessibility to major ports and capital cities” said Cr Redding.

Prospectus presented at launch event

The prospectus for the proposed Northern NSW Inland Port presents a compelling case for business investment and country lifestyle in Narrabri Shire.

The document outlines the strategic benefits of  the site as a  freight and logistics terminal as well as an industrial park.

The prospectus is a document which extols the attractions of a country lifestyle in a shire which ‘will be a strong and vibrant regional growth centre providing a quality living environment for the entire shire community.’

“Moving quickly from proposal to development, this project will present major investment opportunities for transport and logistics operators, manufacturers, agri-businesses and service providers, and offer a competitive advantage to businesses requiring state, national and global distribution” the mayor said.

“Not only will Narrabri Shire see the investment opportunities, the facility will enhance opportunities for regional employment with current estimates indicating approximately 1000 new jobs stemming from the development.

“The complex will also assist in strengthening the existing economy and continue to increase the current $1.2 billion Gross Regional Product.

“The project is in line with the Narrabri Shire vision set by the community to be a ‘strong and vibrant regional growth centre’” the mayor said.

“Council has listened to the community and is delivering on our core economic development strategy of diversification of the local economy which aligns with several of the State Government priorities for regional NSW including improving freight networks, providing attractive environments for businesses and creating vibrant places to live and work” the mayor said.

“Council is currently fielding several enquiries from a large and diverse range of businesses across many industry sectors interested in relocating or expanding their operations to the Narrabri hub.

“It truly is an exciting time for our Shire, with the launch of the hub beginning of activation of the Northern NSW region that is set to provide endless opportunities.”
