Thoroughbred Industry Careers hosted five young ladies from Western NSW at Royal Randwick on Saturday, two of which are Narrabri Pony Club members.

The Narrabri Pony Club members and current Year 10 New England Girls’ School students were Paige Fielder and Molly Michell-Smith, who were joined by girls from Orange, Tamworth and Walgett.

The girls were selected as competitors of the North West Equestrian Expo, which TIC was a major sponsor of.

The girls and their families were given an inside look at what goes on behind the scenes at a major raceday.

They spent time in the mounting yard with Australia’s queen of racing Gai Waterhouse, they were taken around to have a look at the start of a race with Dale Jeffs and they also spent time in the stewards room listening to Racing NSW’s chief steward Marc Van Gestel question jockeys post-race.

They also got to hear about the importance of integrity in racing and above all, horse welfare.

The thoroughbred industry allows people to combine their love of horses with a vast array of interesting and varied career choices.

The girls got some great insight into all the possibilities the industry has to offer.
