For many people, speaking in public, even among a group of friends, is a nightmare.

It doesn’t have to be.

The ability to speak confidently and comfortably in any situation in a family, social or business setting and enjoy it – can be learned.

And learning the skill is fun with Toastmasters as many Narrabri people have found over the years.

Narrabri has an active Toastmasters group and the group is encouraging more people to join.

Toastmasters exists as a major international social organisation because so many people don’t like to speak up.’

With Toastmasters everyone is in the same boat – they all wanted to become confident speakers.

Toastmasters come from all walks of life, but with one thing in common, they don’t feel comfortable speaking in public, but wish they were.

The answer is at hand in Narrabri.

“Toastmasters has moved into the 21st century” explained president Andrew Kerr.

“Toastmasters has designed a totally new training and learning software platform called pathways. come along to Narrabri Toastmasters and investigate this new program.

“Pathways will appeal to the “computer generation” you must be 18 or over to be a member of Toastmasters.

On joining Toastmasters you simply go online choose a path, down load the pathway of choice, all programs are designed to help develop your career or just to be more comfortable socially.

“There are 10 different paths to choose from. Each path is designed to improve or teach the following, Dynamic leadership, Motive, Persuade, Present, Build strategic relationships, Team collaboration and Visionary communication.

“There are no time limits enforced for completion, you learn at your own pace and present your presentation at one of the clubs meetings when you feel ready to.

“Members develop self-confidence and skills by giving prepared speeches 5 to 7 minutes in a friendly atmosphere with like-minded people.

“More experienced members give constructive feedback to the speaker on what was done well and suggestions as to how you can improve.

“Many people join Toastmasters for specific reasons. They overcome shyness or embarrassment, learn to present and move on and others enjoy the program and fellowship plus helping others reach their speaking goals so much they remain members for many years.

“Narrabri Toastmasters is celebrating 30 years of continual service to the Narrabri Shire community. During this period the Narrabri club has helped many hundreds of town and country people.

To celebrate the achievement Narrabri Toastmasters will hold a dinner at the Narrabri Bowling on October 5 in conjunction with the “Back to Bri” festival.

“All past and present members are invited to attend fun filled evening. It will be a great night out a time to catch up and chat maybe discuss your Toastmasters journey with kindred spirited people .

“Meanwhile we look forward to seeing you at Narrabri Toastmasters on the second and fourth Wednesday at 7.00pm each month at the Narrabri Bowling Club.”
