Spring is a great season, and a very busy one for gardeners and friends and despite the hostile weather, the Narrabri Garden Club members are enjoying a full program of flower shows, trips and meetings.
Thirty seven members and three visitors enjoyed a beautiful spring morning in August as guests of Leah McKinnon who opened her amazing garden in Doyle Street, which is a great example of what can be achieved even in a small urban environment with forward planning, expertise and an understanding of the principles of biodiversity and sustainability.
Leah entertained the members with an entertaining and in-depth presentation and we all left the meeting much better informed on how even small changes in our environment can make a difference.
The first of our 2019 trips will leave on September 28 for a trip to the Hunter Valley Gardens, and the plant lovers fair.
Jenni Hayne has again put together a great program for members and guests.
The next trip will be on November 2-3 to the Millthorpe Ramble which features 10 lovely gardens.
Jenni has all the information on these events.
Every year in October Gardening Australia launches National Gardening Week.
This year the theme is encouraging school gardens.
Narrabri Garden Club has contacted local schools to assess what their plans and goals are with the view to what the club may be able to assist with.
Narrabri is very lucky with committed teachers and students already promoting healthy lifestyles and the benefits of growing our own food, so the club is hoping to be part of this important planning.
The NSWFAA flower show was an amazing success as we know, a testament to Narrabri as a community which despite adversity still comes together to produce excellent events all the time.
Local flower shows are also important community events with the Presbyterian Flower Show held last weekend and the annual rose and flower show in October is not to be missed.
There are two floral art workshops being held Wendy McNair and Bev McNellie and Francis Drysdale are hosting two separate events, for further details please contact the club.
The September meeting was held at Meg Pawley’s garden in Stafford Drive – which will report on that at a later date.
