A man has been charged after shots were allegedly fired during an incident in Pilliga, on Thursday, September 19.

At about 3pm, officers attached to Oxley Police District responded to reports a firearm had been discharged during an altercation at a home in Pilliga.

It is alleged two men, aged 44 and 20, were drinking at the home and became involved in a physical altercation after the older man allegedly discharged a firearm several times within the home.

It’s alleged that during a ‘struggle’ the younger man was struck to the head and bitten on the hand.

Police responded from Pilliga, Wee Waa and Narrabri and established a perimeter around the house.

About 5.40pm, the 44-year-old man allegedly drove from the home before being intercepted and arrested by police.

“Police seized a rifle from the vehicle and established a crime scene at the home,” according to a statement released by NSW Police media.

The man was taken to Narrabri Police Station and charged with the following offences:

• Use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence

• Assault occasioning actual bodily harm

• Possess unauthorised firearm

• Use, supply, acquire or possess defaced firearm

• Fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property

• Not keep firearm safely

• Possess ammunition without holding licence

• Drive with high range PCA (second offence)

The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Gunnedah Local Court on October 8.

Police are appealing for information after a woman’s bag was ‘snatched’ as she walked home from a store in Wee Waa, on Friday September 20 at about 11.20am.

“A 58-year-old woman was walking home from the CBD when she was robbed by two men and a woman at the intersection of an unnamed laneway and Church Street at Wee Waa,” NSW Police said in a media statement.

Police were told the woman’s ‘purse was snatched from her grasp before she was pushed in the back and fell to the ground.’

Police said the woman turned to see the three offenders, described as being Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, run across Church Street and down the unnamed laneway.

Police said the bag contained bank cards and a quantity of cash.

The woman was uninjured and walked home before attending the Wee Waa Police Station to report the incident, according to Police.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District canvassed the area however haven’t identified those involved.

Investigations are continuing.

At about 1pm on September 12, police executed a search warrant in Denison Street, Narrabri with the assistance of the drug detection dog, named Hayley.

The Narrabri region’s Police Inspector Robert Dunn said Police seized various computer related items – phones, ATM card, a small amount of what’s alleged to be cannabis and other paperwork of interest.

Police are still continuing investigation.

Police also executed a search warrant at a home in Wee Waa on Friday September 13. Insp. Dunn said Police searched the premises and located a quantity of what’s alleged to be cannabis and a small amount of cash, alleged to be from the proceeds of the sale of cannabis.

The premises were searched with the assistance of a drug detection dog. Insp. Dunn said Police are speaking with a 51-year-old man to assist with further inquiries.

On the evening of September 14
police responded to reports of a ‘brawl’ at a premises in Wee Waa.

Insp. Dunn said Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify any offences and persons of interest.

Insp. Dunn said a juvenile in custody also recently escaped from the back of a police vehicle in Narrabri.

The juvenile was being conveyed to Moree police station after being arrested.

Insp. Dunn said he ‘feigned a personal hygiene request’ and when police opened the door to speak with him, he forced his way out of the vehicle and’ decamped across the Newell Highway’.

“Police gave chase and apprehended him approximately 200 metres down the road,” said Insp. Dunn.

He’s now in juvenile detention.
