Narrabri Golf Club hosted the 2019 Volkswagen Scramble on Sunday which attracted 108 players across 27 teams and was won by a team of locals, past and present.

Narrabri’s Rod and Jen Kirk teamed up with Goondiwindi father and son duo Zak and Ricky Woodward, formerly of Narrabri, and won the event with a score of 55-and-three-quarters.

They narrowly defeated the second-placed team of Troy Nott and Paul, Wade and Ammie Foster which finished with 55-and-seven-eighths.

Placing third was the team of Joe Hayne, Shaun Ferguson, M Zell and P Hayes which scored 57-and-a-quarter, and in fourth were Adam Taylor, Jane Lennox, and Fiona and Mark Campbell with 59-and-a-half.

Nearest to pin fifth was claimed by Dylan Duncan, nearest to pin eighth went to Fiona Campbell, nearest to pin 12th was won by Rod Rees and nearest to pin 16th went to Wee Waa golfer David Avery.

The two top-ranked sides qualified for the regional final to be held in March next year, at this stage to be hosted by the Bonville Golf Resort.

The winners of the regional finals will progress to the national championships final which will be played at the prestigious Twin Waters Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast.

The Volkswagen Scramble is a pro amateur club team’s event which is managed by the PGA of Australia.

Since the event commenced in 1992, it has become Australia’s largest and most successful pro-amateur team’s event, with more than 1,000,000 players participating in more than 10,000 events.

The first stage of the competition sees local clubs host their events to determine who progresses to the regional finals.

The number of teams that progresses to the respective regional final is determined by how many players attend each qualifying day.
