Danger Lane on the outskirts of Narrabri is living up to its name with reports of a series of ‘dangerous’ dog attacks in recent weeks.
Danger Lane is located at Jacks Creek just near Westport Road, and local graziers from the area have joined forces with the Rural Crime Prevention team and Local Land Services to combat dog attacks on livestock.
“One bloke has lost 47 sheep to dog attacks,” said grazier David Scilley.
“Another farmer has lost some of his Alpacas.
“Dogs got into my sheep at my brother’s property ‘Rugby’ but thankfully my brother disturbed them before they started to attack,” said Mr Scilley.
Mr Scilley said videos of some of the dogs involved in the attacks have been handed to police for further investigation.
“We do want to warn people about the need to not only control your domestic dogs but also to keep an eye out for wild dogs.
“The loss of livestock to dog attacks is not only horrible and heart-breaking for farmers to see but there’s also a cost burden.”
Mr Scilley also warned that the fines for owners in relation to dog attacks can be hefty including an on-the-spot fine of $1320 or a maximum of
$11, 000.
