Wee Waa High School has announced its new student leadership team.
Clifford Toomey and Mackenzie Weaver will take on the school captain roles and will be supported by new vice-captains Georgia Smith and Michael Horne.
The four students were among a larger group which nominated for the positions and had to complete a leadership booklet based on their school performance and community activities before being elected by their fellow students and Wee Waa High School staff.
Deputy principal Jacki Neil said the new captains would bring a range of different talents and experience to the leadership team.
“It’s a culturally diverse team.
“Both Clifford and Georgia identify as being Aboriginal and it’s really positive that they can be such positive role models for other indigenous students,” said Ms Neil.
“Mackenzie participates in a variety of activities both in and outside of school and has very good connections with the junior years.”
Ms Neil said Michael Horne has built up the skills to be a wonderful leader over the years because of his involvement and commitment to WWHS’ well-known Bush-Bots robotic team.
“We’ve said to the captains that they’re our ‘go-to people’ when it comes to communication because the student body is more likely to tell them things that are happening or that they want to change rather than the teachers.”
