Narrabri trio Tony and Marie Redman and Pat Mundy were prize winners at the Coonamble A Bowls Memorial Day held last Saturday.

Marie, Tony and Pat were awarded the prestigious Eric Fernando Memorial Prize after winning two of their three matches and placing fifth out of 18 teams.

The 2019 Coonamble A Bowls Memorial Day was a Mixed Triples event where each team played three matches of 10 ends.

In Tony, Marie and Pat’s first match they downed a Collarenebri team before losing by just two points to a Lightning Ridge team in their second game.

In their third and final game they defeated a Moree side.

The late Mr Fernando, after who the prize is named, was the father of Narrabri woman Di Powell.

Mrs Powell, originally from Coonamble, organised the event 17 years ago and it has since run annually.

Mrs Powell has also donated memorial trophies named after her late sons Aaron and Wayne Powell for the event.

She told The Courier that there were 48 bowlers in attendance on the day, a number with which she was happy.

Including Tony, Marie and Pat, three teams of Narrabri players and one Wee Waa team travelled to join players from all over the Northwest to compete on the day.
