On Friday, November 15, Khan Watson lost his locks for a special cause close to his heart.

Khan, the son of Cigdem and Kurt Watson, had his head shaved in front of the Monterey Cafe.

Khan, aged 8, decided to let go of his longish hair to raise money for charity after his best friend Joshua Davis passed away after a long battle with cancer earlier this year.

Joshua and Khan were born just five weeks apart and were more like brothers than best friends.

Joshua was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer aged three years old and fought a courageous five-year-long battle.

Joshua passed away on June 21 this year aged eight years and six months.

Khan’s grandmother, or ‘Mama’, Sue Watson was also diagnosed with cancer recently which added further impetus to the fund raiser.

Khan sat down in front of a large crowd of family, friends and supportive Narrabri locals at 6.15pm.

Mum Cigdem wrapped Khan in a pink ribbon banner, gave Khan a kiss on the cheek for luck and turned on the hair clippers.

Khan’s younger brother Ali Watson suggested that his mum start shaving down the middle of Khan’s head and that is where Cigdem began.

In a matter of minutes Khan’s hair was all shaved and when Cigdem showed Khan his brand new,  streamlined look he said, “Oh my gosh.”

Jenny Wilson from the Monterey Cafe brought out a lolly jar guessing competition to help raise some more money for Khan’s cause.Ultimately, Khan raised over $1400 for charity thanks to the generosity of the Narrabri community and he thanked everyone who attended.
