By Karla’s Swim Team head coach Karla Carruthers

On Sunday, November 17, Karla’s Swim Team travelled to Scully Park at Tamworth for an area swimming carnival .

It was a fun day and all swimmers exceeded my expectations.

I’m excited about the improvements that can be made over summer as we really get stuck into training and continue to improve our skills and fitness.

Some of the highlights from the day included:

Five-year-old Raffery Lendon swam for the very first time in the non-competitive 25m freestyle and butterfly events.

Raff has been attending swimming carnivals supporting his older sibling for years so for him to have a go was very exciting.

We also had a number of 7-8-year-olds competing in their first ever carnival which was always great but also a little nervous.

Samantha Murray swam exceptionally well for her first time and scored herself a silver medal in the 8-years 50m freestyle.

I was so proud how all swimmers participated and were not to nervous, they absolutely loved it.

I was very happy to see our new older swimmers getting involved and competing in new events for the first time as well.

A lot of swimmers swam massive personal best times on the day.

Medal winners included Toby Michell-Smith, Harrison Bennett, Tayla Nott, Liam Nott, Baxter Dalton, Campbell Leslie, Darcy Gleeson, Samantha Murray and Lincoln Cecil.

The standouts on the day included Harrison Bennett, Tayla Nott and Baxter Dalton.

Harrison won all of his age events, and the prize money in the 13-years-and-under boys SKINS event.

Tayla Nott really pushed herself outside her comfort zone this weekend and I think we are going to see some great swims from her this season.

Baxter swam very well and was strong amongst his age group. His fitness and attitude on the day were exceptional.
