The impact of the drought on district families is continuing and the community is keen to help people in need.

This will be even more important at Christmas time.

Coles Narrabri supermarket has again stepped up with a community support initiative from the management and staff.

“We are calling our project ‘Be a mate, put it in the crate and inviting people to drop a non perishable item – particularly basic daily necessities – into the donation crate near the checkouts at Coles’,” explained store manager Jamie Cook.

“People have bought items in the store specifically to then drop into the box, but we welcome contributions from anywhere – it doesn’t have to be something bought at Coles, it can be from any store, or from home.”

The donations will be taken to Narrabri CWA for distribution to drought impacted families before Christmas.

And the donations are not solely for farmers – many families are suffering, there have been job losses across the board due to the drought.

“Items like shampoo, toiletries, canned goods, even dog food are very welcome,” said Jamie.

“Anything will be really appreciated during these difficult times.”
