The Wee Waa Swimming Club’s annual development meet, which was held on Saturday, was a successful one for Karla’s Swim Team.
There were 33 of local coach Karla Carruthers’ swimmers in action at what is their home carnival, with the team swimming under the Wee Waa Swimming Club banner in the 2019-20 season.
Carruthers told The Courier that she was overwhelmed with the performance of her team.
“I was amazed at how they performed,” Carruthers said.
“We almost medaled in every event across most age groups.
“My youngest swimmer on the day was seven with the oldest being 14.
“The kids all had a lot of fun and swam very competitively for the cash prizes.
“My swimmers proved their fitness and racing skills winning five out of the eight SKINS events on the day.”
Five Karla’s Swim Team swimmers combined to break nine different Wee Waa pool records on the day.
Harry Bennett broke three individual pool records which were in the boys’ 13-years 33m freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events.
Jack Lowick set two new records in the boys’ 10-years 33m freestyle and the boys’ 10-years-and-under 100m breaststroke.
Jack not only broke the pool record in that breaststroke event, but he also gained a NSW Country qualifying time.
Rosie Ross also broke two individual Wee Waa pool records which were the girls’ 13-years 33m backstroke and the girls’ 13-years-and-over 100m backstroke.
Will Smith set one new pool record which was in the boys’ 9-years 33m backstroke event.
Harry, Rosie and Karla’s Swim Team teammate Toby Michell-Smith all teamed up with their Wee Waa clubmate Nick Kable to set a new pool record in the open relay event.
Karla’s Swim Team members also had success in the SKINS events on the day, winning five of the eight.
Eddie Lowick won the boys’ 8-years-and-under SKINS event and Christopher Welsh was the runner up.
In the girls’ 8-years-and-under SKINS event Samantha Murray was the winner and Gracie Lawty placed second.
The boys’ 10-years-and-under SKINS event was won by Jack Lowick before Tayla Nott took out the girls’ 12-years-and-under SKINS event.
The boys’ 12-years-and-under SKINS event was not won by a Karla’s Swim Team member, however Jack Lowick placed second.
Finally, the boys’ 13-years-and-over SKINS winner was Harry Bennett and teammate Toby Michell-Smith placed second.
