Narrabri Police Inspector Robert Dunn has praised the Narrabri community for its good behaviour over the summer holiday period.

“New Year’s Eve was particularly pleasing and though the township was busy with people and revellers they were – for the most part – extremely well-behaved,” said Insp. Dunn.

He said there were two main incidents on New Year’s Eve and they both allegedly involved alcohol and driving.

“At 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve, a female was observed by police to be avoiding a stationary breath testing site,” said Insp. Dunn.

“She actively avoided a testing spot on Cooma Road, police followed the vehicle for a short distance and stopped her on Genanagie Street.”

Insp. Dunn said the 47-year-old was breath tested at Narrabri Police Station and returned a positive result, a blood alcohol limit of 0.072.

The woman was issued with an infringement notice for the drink driving charge of a ‘prescribed concentration of alcohol’ offence and her licence was suspended for three months under new legislation that means even first-time, low-range offenders can lose their licence on the spot for three months.

Inspector Dunn also said a 32-year-old Narrabri man was arrested and will face court for allegedly driving with a suspended licence and allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

“At 3.20am on New Year’s Day police were patrolling Narrabri when we observed a utility driving through the back streets of Narrabri,” said Insp. Dunn.

“We got up to the vehicle as the driver pulled into his residence.

“He was arrested and taken back to police station, further inquiries made, he was subsequently released and issued with a future court attendance notice.”

Police are also appealing for information following the alleged theft of 10,000 litres of diesel, valued at about $135,000, from a property at Mallawa over a period of time from December 2019 and January 2020.
