There’s a new police officer on the Narrabri beat – Constable Mark Mifsud.

“It’s been good, I’ve been enjoying it,” said Constable Mifsud.

“It’s definitely different to where I grew up in Sydney but at the same time I’m growing to love the place already.”

Constable Mifsud said he was thrilled to have the opportunity to join the Narrabri Police Station after successfully completing his training at the Police Force Academy in Goulburn.

The 21-year-old previously worked as a lifeguard and so said the recent hot weather hasn’t rattled him.

“I worked as a lifeguard at Wet ‘n’ Wild so I’m used to standing out in the heat.

“I grew up in Penrith and I’ve also lived at Jervis Bay down near Huskisson.”

Constable Mifsud said he was inspired to join the force by a family member who worked as country cop.

“I’ve come from a policing background.

“My uncle was a police officer for around 20 years and I’m really close with him, he was a country police officer actually.

“Also my brother was a police officer too.“

Constable Mifsud acknowledged that it took a certain type of person to be a country cop and a trusted member of the community but he also knows being based in the bush has its advantages.

“The difference between a metro job is that jobs can get picked up by other strike forces, but here – you pick up a job and you can do it from start to finish.

“That’s definitely good for me and my training, and it’s good for the community – they can get familiar with our faces.”

Narrabri Police Inspector Robert Dunn welcomed Constable Mifsud to the team.

“There’s a lot of experienced staff here that can guide him and it’s nice to get the city folk out here too.”
