A power pole on the corner of Maitland and Lloyd Streets was damaged by a truck earlier this morning.

The impact of the truck caused the base of the power pole break, which created dangerous fallen powerlines.

Essential Energy arrived on the scene and turned off the power to 616 homes and businesses in Narrabri.

Essential Energy rerouted the power and restored power to 581 homes at 8.17am

A statement was made a short time ago by Essential Energy’s Manager Community Relations Northern David Crough.

The full statement is below:

To ensure the safety of the public and their property, Essential Energy switched power off to 616 homes and businesses in Narrabri, including parts of the main street and the central businesses district, after a truck impacted a power pole on the corner of Maitland and Lloyd Streets,” said Manager Community Relations Northern David Crough

The impact broke the power pole at the base and caused fallen powerlines.

Essential Energy crews responded immediately and after ensuring the safety of the public they rerouted the electricity network around the damaged power pole so that power could be restored to 573 homes and businesses at 8.12am and a further eight at 8.17am.

Repairs to the network, including the replacement of the power pole, are currently underway and Narrabri based Essential Energy crews hope to restore power to the remaining 43 homes and businesses late this afternoon.

The public is reminded to report damage to the electricity network, including fallen or damaged powerlines, immediately by calling 13 20 80 and to stay at least eight metres away from the line and anything in contact with it.

Essential Energy thanks customers for their understanding as crews continue to work as quickly as safety allows to restore power for all customers.

More to come.
