The Narrabri Rugby Club’s four teams have all now kicked off their pre-season training after the senior squad and colts hit the ground running at Dangar Park on Saturday morning.

The ladies’ sevens squad began its pre-season training last month and is currently training three times a week.

The 2020 Central North Rugby Union season will begin on Saturday, April 4, and the Narrabri Rugby Club is determined to get its players as physically ready as possible.

A busy pre-season scheduled incorporating both training and games has been created to achieve just that.

The first significant date on the calendar for the Blue Boars teams is Friday, February 21, which will see former NSW Waratahs prop and current founder and director of Scrum Strong, Sam Needs, provide a scrum session at Dangar Park.

The goal of that session will be to enhance both the safety and performance of scrums for local rugby players.

From Friday, February 28, to Sunday, March 1, the women’s sevens team will travel to Coffs Harbour where it will enjoy a weekend bonding session.

That trip will include games against Coffs Harbour Snappers Rugby Union Football Club, Port Macquarie Pirates Rugby Union Club, and Wauchope Thunder Rugby Club.

On Saturday, March 14, the Blue Boars’ senior squad will play its first trial game of the year when it hosts the Roma Echidnas at Dangar Park.

The ladies’ sevens team and a high school girls’ team will also play that day.

Thirteen days later on Friday, March 27, the Blue Boars’ senior men’s squad will play its second trial match when it hosts the Warren Pumas at Dangar Park.

The next day the club will travel to Croppa Creek where it will take part in the Croppa Creek 10s Tournament.

The Narrabri Rugby Club will host a home game day in round one when the Blue Boars take on the Quirindi Lions.

The following weekend is the Easter long weekend where no games will be played, then the Blue Boars have the CNRU bye in round two on Saturday, April 18.

However, the Blue Boars will still be in action that day with Dangar Park set to host the Southwell Hannaford Memorial Trophy day at Dangar Park.

The number of teams playing on that day is still to be confirmed.

The following weekend will see the Blue Boars challenge defending champions Pirates at Dangar Park.

That will be the last of six game days held at Narrabri’s premier rugby union ground during the months of March and April.

The Narrabri Rugby Club is excited for the 2020 season and issued the following statement earlier this week:

“2020 is really looking great,” it read.

“The first entire club pre-season session had a large group of players show up to blow the rust out last Saturday and it’s expected that there’ll be even more this weekend.

“The ladies’ sevens squad has already been training for several weeks and is certainly are setting the bar high. All grades are looking to improve on last season’s finishes, which saw us have first grade, ladies’ sevens and colts play finals. They have set themselves some high goals for the season.”
