Two Narrabri teams went head-to-head in a State Fours men’s bowls sectional playoff game at the Narrabri Sporties on Sunday.
The team of Sam Pryor, Cameron Yates, Paul Crutcher and Preston Clark was victorious in that match by a 22-20 scoreline, narrowly edging out the opposing team which included Trinity Kelly, Kevin Baguley, Norm Walford and Dave Dewar in a game which came down to the 21st and final end.
That winning team has now progressed to the Zone Three finals which will be played at Lightning Ridge this weekend.
Sunday’s sectional playoff match at the Narrabri Sporties was a tight contest from start to finish.
Kelly’s team won five of the first nine ends, however the score was locked at 9-all at that stage.
Kelly’s team scored five shots on the 10th end to take a five shot lead which was the largest leading margin of the game.
But after the 14th end was contested the scores were even once again at 15-all.
Pryor’s team won three of the next four ends to establish a 19-17 lead after 18 ends.
On the 19th end Kelly’s team scored three shots to regain the lead, moving ahead 20-19, however Pryor’s team scored two shots on the 20th end to go ahead 21-20.
With just one end remaining in the match it was either side’s game to win and it was Pryor’s team which got the job done, scoring one shot to claim a 22-20 victory.
Meanwhile, Wee Waa Bowling Club hosted State President Reserve Fours sectional play on Saturday.
Peter Hennessy, Peter Allen, Dustyn Allen and Brett Pillar from Wee Waa went down 29-20 against a team from Collarenebri.
Later that day that winning side went down to a fellow Collarenebri team, losing to them 24-19.
That winning side will now head out to Lightning Ridge to play off in the Zone finals playoffs.
Wee Waa’s State Senior Fours team which includes Chris Crutcher, Phil Lawford, Ray Dixon and Steve Berger had no opposition in their sectional play so the side will also go out to Lightning Ridge to play off in the Zone final playoffs.
