The 2020 Zone Three Bowls pennants seasons started at the weekend which saw the Narrabri Sporties’ Grade Three and Grade Six teams start their respective campaigns.
Narrabri’s Grade Three team had the bye on Saturday in its three-team section then travelled to Gunnedah in round two on Sunday.
The visiting side went down to the hosts eight points to two.
Narrabri was outscored 61 shots to 56 on the big board in that match.
Despite Narrabri winning two of the three rinks on the day, Gunnedah managed to take the win overall picking up eight points from the clash to Narrabri’s two points.
Narrabri’s Grade Three teams played well throughout the contest and were extremely unlucky to not come away with the overall win.
In Grade Six Narrabri played two home games on the weekend.
In round one on Saturday the Narrabri men went down to Collarenebri 59 shots to 49.
Narrabri only managed to win one of the three rinks on the day with Colly walking away with nine points to Narrabri’s one point.
The result was closer than the score indicated with Colly getting out to an early lead on the big board before Narrabri staged a revival mid-way through the match.
However the home side was unable to bridge the gap.
On Sunday the Narrabri Sporties Grade Six team hosted Gunnedah in a round two clash.
With some fine tuning of the teams from the previous day Narrabri started well getting out to a sizable lead.
Gunnedah staged a comeback late in the day but Narrabri was able to hang on taking the big board by only one shot 55 to 54.
Again Narrabri was only able to win one of the three rinks but was still able to take out the day.
Narrabri walked away with eight points to Gunnedah’s two.
This weekend the Narrabri Sporties’ Grade Three and Grade Six teams will both play round three matches at home.
In Grade Three Narrabri will welcome Inverell to town on Saturday,
That fixture will commence with a roll up at 10.15am with the game kicking off at 10.30am.
In Grade Six Narrabri will play host to Moree on Saturday, with a roll up commencing at 10.45am for an 11am start.
The teams for those matches have been named and are as follows:
Grade Three: Sam Pryor, Paul Crutcher, Dave Dewar, Bob Ireland; Trinity Kelly, Paul Hulbert, Preston Clark, Kevin Hulbert; Cameron Yates, Norm Walford, Kevin Baguley, Larry Scott.
Grade Six: Len Ryan, Steve Daskey, Stuart Coleman, Wayne Hetherington; Scott Dewar, Justin Green, Sean Anderson, Bob Cantrill; Graham Rose, Tony Redman, David Briggs and Rob Wolters.
The managers for those teams have also been named – Archie Sheppard (Threes) and Laurie Gilbert (Sixes).
