The Narrabri Dirt Bike Club hosted the Motorcycling NSW 2020 King of MX qualifier two at Newtown Park on Saturday and Sunday.
The Narrabri club had about 25 local riders compete with nine qualifying for the next stage.
The King of MX is essentially the NSW state titles of motocross with the finals being held over the June long weekend.
To qualify for the finals, which are held in Cessnock, riders must finish in the top six or seven in their selected class at any of the six qualifying events to receive a golden ticket.
The weekend’s racing showcased some of the region’s best talent, and Narrabri Dirt Bike Club race secretary Diane McDougall described it as one big success.
The Narrabri Dirt Bike Club sent in the following report to The Courier:
Narrabri Dirt Bike Club hosted the Motorcycling NSW King of MX qualifier two on Saturday and Sunday, February 29 and March 1.
All of our local riders whether qualified or not should be very proud of themselves and congratulations to them all for completing the day in hot and dusty conditions.
They were up against some very tough competition
A wrap up of results for the local riders is as follows:
Division One 50cc non-competitive:
Local riders were Jay McDougall, Jack Lehmann, Ebony Lehmann and Jaxon Duff-Dalton along with Tamworth’s Kody Wheeler. All rode well and had lots of fun.
Division Two 50cc 7-under-9-years:
Local rider Oliver Lehmann qualified for the state finals while local boy Lincoln Bourke missed out by one point. This was Lincoln’s first race back after having 12 months off due to injury.
65cc 7-under-9-years:
Max Partridge who comes from Tamworth but rides at all our club days qualified for the state finals while Narrabri boys Lewis Penberthy and Oliver Lehmann just missed out. Linc Driscoll rode well for his first big race meet. Wee Waa’s Oliver Smith was going very well until a mishap in the last moto. It was looking good for him to qualify. This was Oliver’s first big race meet too.
65cc 10-under-12-years:
Local riders Hunter McCauley and Tex Penberthy rode exceptional well but unfortunately it wasn’t their day to quality. Gurley’s Liam Lobsey and Tamworth’s Owen Wheeler also had a good day on their bikes but missed out qualifying for state titles. Liam and Owen ride in all our club days so we class them as our own riders.
85cc 9-under-12-years:
Kidman Harris, Liandro Browning, Harris Burke and Jessie Harris all did themselves very proud without qualifying. All rode well in some very tough competition.
85cc 12-under-14-years:
Local riders Jayden Thompson and Beau Fitzgerald along with Gunnedah’s Nate Harris, who rides at all our club days, missed out on
qualifying but rode well with some very strong competition.
85cc 14-under-16-years:
Jarrod Nolan from Warialda who also rides in all our local club days qualified for the state finals.
100-125cc 13-under-16-years:
This was the strongest most hotly contested race of the meet. Our club had Matthew Johnson in this one flying our local flag. Matthew didn’t qualify but he rode exceptionally well and should be very proud of himself. This was his first big meet also. He has improved out of sight. The club is very proud to call him our own.
MX Two B-grade:
Local rider Lachlan Bennett qualified to go into the state finals.
C-grade lites:
Wee Waa brothers Kyle and Nathan Suckling both qualified. So did Gunnedah’s Ashton Harris and Tamworth’s Brock Sampson. Both boys also ride in all our local club days. There was some very strong competition in this one also.
Vets:
Wayne Sparrow flew the local flag in this one and qualified for the state finals. They may be vets but they are quite serious in this class.
