Five consecutive days of the COVID-19 growth rate slowing has come to an end following today’s update.

NSW Minister for Health Brad Hazzard said this morning that as at 8pm yesterday there had been an increase of 49 confirmed cases across the state in a 24-hour period.

Mr Hazzard described that as a modest increase and said that it reflected a great effort by the state community given that the increase on Tuesday, March 24, was 211.

In the 24-hour period prior to 8pm yesterday there were 4444 people tested, 538 (14 per cent) more than the 3906 the day before, but there were only 10 more confirmed cases than that previous day.

Today marked six consecutive days of the rise in new cases staying under 100 in NSW.

On Sunday, April 5, NSW Health announced 87 new cases (down from the 104 the previous day) which was followed by 57 on Monday, 49 on Tuesday, 48 on Wednesday and 39 yesterday.

The latest increase of 49 confirmed cases has taken the state’s total to 2822.

There are currently 211 people suffering from COVID-19 in NSW hospitals, 29 of whom are in intensive care units.

There have been 22 deaths deaths across the state, while 53 people have died across the entire country.

There are still no confirmed cases in Narrabri, despite cases being recorded in the Gunnedah, Armidale, Tamworth, Inverell and Coonamble local government areas.
