Member for Barwon, Roy Butler made a special visit to First Narrabri West Scout Group recently to meet the young members and join in a Scout meeting (pre-COVID).
He also had a surprise for the committee.
After meeting the kids, Mr Butler’s first duty was to invest he newest member, Elizabeth Faris, with her scarf, making her officially a Scout.
Mr Butler then announced that the group had been one of the successful applicants in the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership grant scheme.
The group will receive $13,050 to refurbish and extend the Scouts’ kitchen.
Mr Butler said that he was delighted to bring the group good news, and that he was happy to be able to provide financial support to such a worthy project.
“it was a wonderful suprise,” said Scout Group secretary Julia Berney.
“We put a lot of work into the grant application, but we knew that competition would be intense, and we were not banking on getting it.”
The Scout Group looks forward to inviting Mr Butler back when the new kitchen is finished, Mrs Berney said.
