On Sunday, NSW Health announced 21 new cases of COVID-19 in a 24-hour period up to 8pm on Saturday, and since then just 22 new cases have emerged across the state in what has been another small victory in the battle against the deadly virus.
Less than 10 new COVID-19 cases in NSW were announced again today as the state’s daily rise remained in single digits for a fourth consecutive 24-hour period.
Like yesterday, just five additional cases were recorded as at 8pm on Wednesday, April 22, bringing the state’s total to 2,976.
On both Monday and Tuesday that number was six.
From 8pm on Tuesday until 8pm on Wednesday there were 5645 people tested, 1354 more than the 24-hour period before that.
NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant spoke alongside NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian at a press conference earlier today where she expressed her appreciation for the NSW community coming forward to get tested.
Dr Chant said among the most recent five people who tested positive for COVID-19, one was a paramedic and another was a nurse.
Premier Berejiklian said that positive signs continued to emerge.
“Children going back to school on May 11 should be a strong signal to everybody that we are achieving what we hope to achieve from the restrictions, that schools going back is the first positive sign of us being able to resume a level of activity,” she said.
“I look forward to updating the community on further updates into the future.”
There have now been 2,006 people that have recovered from COVID-19 in NSW.
There are currently 219 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health, including 21 people being treated in intensive care units, with 15 of those requiring ventilators.
Meanwhile Australia’s daily increase has also remained in single figures. As at 6am today there have been 6,654 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia following just seven new cases since since 6am yesterday.
