As at 6am today there have been 6,667 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia following an addition of just 13 new national cases since 6am yesterday.
The country has reached another major milestone, with the recovery rate surpassing 75 per cent.
Of the 6,667 confirmed cases in Australia, 5,095 have been reported as recovered from COVID-19, as just 1622 cases remain active.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that the latest update from the Department of Health was “hugely encouraging” but encouraged Australians not to get complacent.
“Sticking to our plan is saving lives and will save livelihoods,” Mr Morrison said.
“Three out of four people who have tested positive for coronavirus in Australia have now recovered.
“There are now just over 1600 active cases across the country and new cases each day are only increasing by about 0.2 per cent.
“It is true we are doing better than so many other countries but we can’t get complacent. The virus writes its own rules and can quickly get out of control, if we don’t act carefully, as we have also seen in other countries.
“We have begun opening things up again and are on the road back. This is very important. I want to see kids back at school and people back at work.
“We are only in this position because of the hard work, patience and support of Australians, so thank you. We will get through this together.”
