NSW Health announced yesterday that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state had climbed above 3000, however today’s update was a far more positive one.
As at 8pm on Sunday, April 26, an additional two cases of COVID-19 had been diagnosed since 8pm on Saturday, April 25, bringing the total to 3,004. During that 24-hour period, 4,418 people were tested, compared to 5,459 in the 24 hours before.
That daily increase in confirmed cases was six less than the day before and was also the lowest in the state since March 8.
There have now been 2,227 people who have recovered from COVID-19 in NSW as the state’s recovery rate reached 74 per cent.
There are currently 160 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health including 19 people being treated in intensive care units, with 15 of those requiring ventilators.
NSW Health also reported that there had been no new deaths recorded in the past 24 hours in another major coup for the state.
But despite the waves of positive new in NSW, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said that a vaccine was essential for the state’s way of life to return to normal.
“Once people ease back into normal active life, and I’m not going to suggest we are going to go back to what we were until the vaccine is found, the number of cases will go up, that’s a fact,” she said.
“Yes we want to ease restrictions, yes we want people to have a greater sense of normality in their lives, but that comes with obvious consequences.”
