Progress continues in Narrabri even in the time of COVID-19.

Work has started on the demolition of the old caretakers’ house at Narrabri Showground.

The building will go to be replaced by a new house.

The caretakers’ lodge, part of the grounds administered by the Narrabri Showgrounds Land Management Board, has been part of the scenery since it was moved there in 1958.

“It is an ex-Forestry Department house,” said Board chairman Bill Wood.

It has been home to Showground caretakers over the decades.

“The new house will be funded as a result of a safety audit of the Showground,” said Mr Wood.

“The house was deemed to have issues around deterioration and on further inspection it was decided the cost of repair would be more than cost of a replacement.

A new house was a better option.

A ‘hygienist’ inspected the house on Friday ahead of the demolition to ascertain if any hazardous materials were present.

The new home should be up by mid May.
