Gwabegar greyhound trainer Eric Butler and Wee Waa trainer Geoffrey Whitton both had dogs in action at a Gunnedah Greyhound Racing Club TAB meeting on Wednesday, May 6.

One of a combined eight of those greyhounds ran to a top-three finish which was Butler’s Sunshine Ruby, a winner in the seventh race of the
twilight meeting.

That was a 340-metre grade five race in which Sunshine Ruby jumped from box five.

The two-year-old black bitch quickly found herself racing at the front of the pack side-by-side in between the Benjamin Spence-trained Fernando’s Point (box three) and the Troy Luke-trained Sir Eskin (box six).

Sunshine Ruby got in front as she entered the turn and she stormed down the home straight to win by almost two lengths from Fernando’s Point.

The victory was Sunshine Ruby’s 10th win from 19 starts and it continued an impressive run of form for the Gwabegar greyhound.

Sunshine Ruby has now ran to nine top-three finishes in her past 10 starts, five of which were wins. She currently boasts a 53 per cent win rate and an 84 per cent top-three finish rate.
