As COVID-19 restrictions are eased and an economy shackled by restrictions takes the first steps back to normality, confidence is returning to the business sector.

Today that confidence was emphasised by news that one of Narrabri’s key businesses has been bought and will continue servicing the local district and wider region.

Namoi Dry Cleaners, on the market for some time, has new owners, Narrabri couple Bill Wood and Annie Moody.

“We are pleased to take this opportunity,” said Mr Wood.

“Narrabri has a great future and we are delighted to be able to continue this important local business.”

Narrabri Chamber of Commerce president Russell Stewart welcomed the announcement.

“This is fantastic,” he said. “It’s a commitment by two people who have moved to Narrabri and underlines the confidence they have in our town and district.”

The business acquisition is good news at a time when country towns are experiencing many small business closures.

“This is a fantastic outcome,” said Mr Stewart. “The new owners clearly see the future and have taken this step forward to consolidate this essential service.

“It is a massive vote of confidence for Narrabri and its economic future.”

Mr Wood and Ms Moody are both closely engaged in the Narrabri business and social community.

“We are committed to Narrabri,” said Ms Moody. “Our future is here.

“I have lived in 15 country towns and Narrabri is by far the best in terms of its sense of community and its great opportunities.”

Namoi Dry Cleaners will continue to operate under the same name and long-time staff member Mary Jones, with 50 years’ experience in the trade, will continue in her role.

Former owners Ross and Jenny Campbell decided this year to step back from business ownership.

Mr Campbell will be working with the new Namoi Dry Cleaners owners in a transition period.

The continuance of the business will be welcomed by its customers.

Ms Moody said the new owners’ aim was to further consolidate Namoi Dry Cleaners as a local business serving the shire community and build on its regional presence.

Currently customers are drawn from the wider region embracing Walgett and Moree districts.
