Narrabri Shire Council has made four comprehensive submissions over the past three years on the Narrabri Gas Project, the council said in a statement.

“Council has and will continue to advocate for appropriate environmental protections should the Narrabri Gas Project be approved, including:

“• Ongoing monitoring of natural gas wells and gathering lines.

“• A robust and comprehensive policy of appropriate insurance and environmental risk coverage of the CSG industry to ensure financial protection short and long term

“The Narrabri Gas Project has huge potential benefits for the Shire.

“The Council voted unanimously to acknowledge the potential benefits of the project in May this year.

“Council has had a consistent position over the past three years that the project needs independent expert assessment and ultimately that the scientists should have the final say on whether the project can proceed.

“Council is pleased that the NSW Government has handed down its final assessment report and is now working through this substantial document to ensure that the matters raised in submissions on behalf of our community over the past three years have been satisfactorily addressed.

“Council is currently reviewing the contents of the 400 page report.”
