Ten Narrabri-trained pacers were in action at a Tamworth Harness Racing Club TAB meeting at the Tamworth Paceway last Thursday.

Of those 10 one was victorious while another placed second and there was also a third-placed finish.

The winner was the Chris Shepherdson-driven Future Fun in the fourth race of the afternoon which was the 1980-metre John’s Auto Service Pace (NR up to 55).

Future Fun started from pole position as the $3.70 favourite in that race and secured a 1.3-metre victory for owners Nathan and Charles Dicks, Neil Drysdale and Peter, Garry and Chris Shepherdson.

It was the group’s second win in six days after Kid Montana raced to a 7.1-metre victory on Saturday night at the Albion Park Paceway.

On Thursday, Future Fun led from start to finish. The five-year-old gelding jumped quickest and led with two laps left to run. The Garry Shepherdson-trained pacer still led the charge when the bell sounded, then he stormed home down the final straight to victory as he held off a fast-finishing Mickey Ramone which was driven to second by Brad Elder for trainer Anthony Missen.

The win was Future Fun’s seventh in 67 career starts, and his fourth this season in 32 races. He earned $3120 in prizemoney for that victory which took his lifetime stakes to $38,455.

In the next race another Garry Shepherdson-trained pacer was almost victorious.

However Sumthin Special, which was driven by Scotty-Jon Welsh, had to settle for second in the 1609-metre Furney’s Stock Feeds Tamworth Pace (NR up to 60).

Sumthin Special started from the number seven barrier on the second line behind pole position and finished 4.4 metres back from the Gregory Coney-trained, Madi Young-driven winner which started from the number two barrier as the race’s $3.20 favourite.

Earlier in the day the Jarred Hetherington-trained Night Lights raced to a third-placed finish in race two.

That race was the 1980-metre Southgate Inn Pace (NR up to 47) in which Night Lights started from the second line wearing the number 10 saddlecloth.

Night Lights was driven by Mick Formosa and finished seven metres back from the race’s $2.70 favourite Neville Shannon which was driven to victory by Brad Elder for trainer Les Enks. Dean Chapple-trained-and-driven pacer Louthpark Xspresso ran home second, less than three metres in front of Night Lights.
T

he Jarred Hetherington-trained mare’s third-placed finished saw her continue her impressive form on Australian soil.

Since her Aussie debut in Tamworth on April 13, Night Lights has now raced nine times for Hetherington, all at Tamworth, and only missed out on a top three finish once.

She has won four of those nine races, placed second twice and now third twice.
