Optimism bloomed at the annual Rose and Flower Show staged by the Narrabri Show Society on the weekend.

The ground level of the Narrabri RSL Club was filled with flowers and a steady stream of admiring visitors.

“We were were determined that the flower show would go on this year, as gardens recovered from the drought,” said one of the organisers, Wendy McNair.

The pandemic has forced the cancellation of many community events but the gardeners were not to be thwarted

“People need to have these events and all the pandemic regulations were observed,” said Mrs McNair.

The past dry years have not been kind to gardens but the society has continued to hold its event showcasing the talent and resilience of shire gardeners. With the rain this year gardens have flourished and the show finished the weekend as one of the most successful for years.
