There was a festive mood and atmosphere of optimism at the Tourist Hotel on Friday night when guests from the shire community joined Narrabri Shire councillors and staff at the Mayor’s Christmas Party.

The event was MCd by council general manager Stewart Todd who introduced special guests Santos managing director and chief executive Kevin Gallagher and former land and water commissioner and drought co-ordinator Jock Laurie.

The mayor Ron Campbell welcomed guests and recalled some of the developments across the shire in the past year.

The year has been one of progress, and seen a range of major infrastructure projects finalised and others in advanced planning stages, ranging from the opening of the Tarriaro bridge to the launch of the Northern NSW Inland Port, the culmination of several years planning, the announcement that Narrabri will be designated a Special Activation Precinct and completion of roads and shire utilities projects.

“There is no shire in Australia with the prospects that Narrabri Shire has,” the mayor said.

Gallagher told guests that Santos proposed the expenditure of more than one billion dollars on the Narrabri gas project over the next five years.
