Thousands of spectators at Friday night’s Waratahs-Reds clash applauded and joined in with vocalists Pattie Lettice and Aleka Russell -Towney in singing ‘We Are One’, part of the ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony.

Edward Trindall’s ‘Welcome to Country’ and Krista Zarka’s clear and confident acknowledgement resonated with the Dangar Park audience.

The traditional ‘welcome’ ceremony set the stage for the spirit of community at the event. Pattie Lettice’s Kamilaroi group of young dancers proudly presented impressive performances of the welcome dance and the totem dance.

“It was good to do this for the community, particularly after the tough times of COVID and drought,” Pattie said.

The match between the two Super Rugby sides was won 45-33 by the NSW Waratahs.
