Narrabri Shire Council has awarded two separate tenders to local businesses to complete the Narrabri Creek shared path (stage four) and the Narrabri Airport apron extension project.

JLE Concreting will complete the Narrabri Creek shared path which has been made possible through funding from the NSW government’s Drought Stimulus Package and a co-contribution from council.

The 500-metre long Narrabri Creek shared path (stage four) will start from the Collins Park oval entry from Tibbereena Street and will extend north west towards the Collins Park ring road, traversing along the Narrabri Creek bank behind Hogan and Leitch Ovals, finishing next to the bus shelter in The Crossing Theatre car park.

Member of the NSW Legislative Council, Sam Farraway said once complete, the project will create a pathway that encourages access for people of all abilities and ages.

“The NSW Nationals are building a safer, stronger regional NSW and this pathway is a prime example of the way in which we are providing community infrastructure that creates jobs and an encourages active, healthy lifestyles,” he said.

WTC Earthmoving has been awarded the Narrabri Airport apron extension project, which involves the construction of a sealed apron and sealed access road at Narrabri Airport as well as associated earthworks, stormwater drainage, bitumen sealing, sign posting, landscaping and line marking.

This project has been made possible with funding through round one of the Australian government’s Regional Airports Program, and a co-contribution from council.

Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said it was great to see a Narrabri construction company awarded the contract.

“As we come out the other side of COVID-19, it’s more important than ever that we support local contractors who employ local people which ensures the economic benefits flow back into our regional communities,” Mr Coulton said.

“I congratulate WTC Earthmoving on being awarded the contract for this project which will improve access for emergency services, ensuring the airport meets the needs of the community now and into the future.”

Council’s general manager, Stewart Todd is extremely pleased to see local contractors applying for, and being successful in council tenders.

“Narrabri Shire is fortunate enough to have highly skilled and capable businesses in the shire,” he said.

“Council is conscious of spending locally where possible and it is fantastic to see our efforts in encouraging local businesses to tender for council projects resulting in successful bids for council works.

“Our work with local businesses over the past two years has included facilitating one-on-one information sessions and delivering presentations to local contractors interested in applying for tenders in their relevant fields.

“These sessions have been effective in lifting the vale on council tender processes and giving local businesses a better understanding of the legislative driven tendering process council must follow.

“It is an exciting time for the Narrabri Shire with a string of upcoming major projects as well as the constant infrastructure improvement and development happening throughout the shire – we encourage all shire businesses that have the capability to deliver on tendered projects to apply.”
