Narrabri Clay Target Club hosted the highly-anticipated annual Deauville Doubles Shoot event on Sunday.

Shooters from the Narrabri district and regional centres including Tamworth, Guyra and Brewarrina contested the shoot which is a stage in the NSW State Championships.

Narrabri Clay Target Club won the right to host the championship shoot due to its great range facilities.

The club described the weather conditions on the day as perfect for shooting as mild temperatures, light to very light winds and scattered cloud ensured that shooters had the best chance to get some red on the score board.

There were 45 shooters who nominated for the day’s events which started with a 20-pair, double rise eye-opener, cash divide, giving shooters the opportunity to dust off the cobwebs and get their eye in.

Event two was the club championship event of 50-pair double rise.

Event one winners of the cash divide were Brad Henshall, John Harris, Terry Rumbel, Terry Haynes, Tim Barwick, Brett Farlow, Blake Swartz, Graham Baylis, Fletcher Richardson, Jenny Haynes, and Ray Christie.

The challenge of the Northern Inland Credit Union 50 Pair Double Rise Club Championship saw the following shooters grace the winner’s circle:
Brad Henshall (Overall), Ben Rumbel – first and Dave Schultz – second (AA-grade), Blake Schwartz – first and Jeff Richardson – second (A-grade), Fletcher Richardson – first and Graham Baylis – second (B-grade), David Lemmon – first and Johan Ras – second (C-grade).

Those first two events determined the high gun results, with Brad Henshall taking out overall high gun. Other winners were Ben Rumbel (AA-grade), Blake Schwartz (A-grade), Fletcher Richardson (B-grade), Dave Lemmon (C-grade), Harry Klepzig, (junior), Tammy Henshall (ladies) and Peter Holmes (veteran).

The competition for the state event then saw some formidable teams step up to the traps.

Nine squads did the rounds and six teams shot the possible, including Brad and Tammy Henshall, Jeff and Fletcher Richardson, Ben and Terry Rumbel,

Kevin Bourke and John Reid, Terry Haynes and Brett Farlow, and Brian Kneipp and Clyde Mitchell.

A shoot-off was then held which saw the eventual winners of Kevin Bourke and John Reid claim the state title with a score of 116/116.

Second went to Terry and Ben Rumbel with 115/116 and Brian Kneipp and Clyde Mitchell placed third with 56/56.

Narrabri Shire councillors Ron Campey and Robert Kneale were guests at the Deauville Doubles Shoot event on Sunday.

Narrabri Shire Council has provided $9000 to the club through the Community Facilities Upgrade program for a concrete addition to the clubhouse.

This was the second grant, following $8000 in funding last year for
development of shooting layouts at the club.

Narrabri Clay Target Club president Mark Barden thanked council for those contributions and said they had provided welcomed additions to the club’s home base.

Club members worked alongside contractors in developing the shooting layouts and additional concreted patio area adjoining the clubhouse.
