When the global pandemic hit last year, and we were stuck inside, a lot of Aussies increased their entertainment intake.

This meant more people than ever were curling up with a good book – a trend which was clearly reflected by the 2020 MS Readathon.

The annual campaign is one of Australia’s longest-running charity initiatives that sees kids everywhere read as many books as possible in August, raising vital funds for the 25,600 Australians living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and their families.

Last year saw 11,204 people in NSW participate in the challenge, which was more than double the sign-up numbers from 2019.

Nationally, the volume of program participants nearly tripled during the peak of the pandemic.

More than 270,000 books were read by almost 50,000 dedicated Aussies, raising over $4m to fund MS support services.

Of this, two participants were from Narrabri West Public School.

Their combined efforts last year raised $643.

The MS Readathon is back again this year and the team hopes to register even more bookworms for the 2021 challenge.

Now is the time to register and kick start fundraising, with children, parents, adults and schools across Australia being encouraged to get involved.
