During late July and early August, the residents at Whiddon Jessie Hunt brought the Olympic spirit to life.

Having joined in the excitement of watching athletes compete live, Jessie Hunt decided to host its own version of the games.

Residents had the chance to participate in an Olympic-themed occasion to celebrate the Tokyo event, complete with their very own medal presentation.

The local games spin-off was held over two days in August and featured a range of events including Olympic toss, world knock-down, Jessie javelin, couch targets, mini croquet, weightlifting and a ribbon routine.

The facility was decorated to resemble the mighty games, with residents having fun crafting the ornaments and props.

Perhaps most notable of these creations was the bean bags for the Olympic toss, a project that was about two-weeks in the making.

Whiddon director care services, Sara Cameron, said that the team at Jessie Hunt did an amazing job to make this a special and fun experience for the residents.

“Everyone was very impressed with the decorations and the creative activities on offer,” she said.

“The event helped residents to connect and celebrate, and there was so much laughter and cheering happening.

“Residents helped to make the decorations, so there was a real buzz for weeks as everyone prepared for the event together – it was such a fun event and created a lot of excitement for all.”

The athletes who took home a medal were Ray Surtees with gold, Malcolm Cameron with silver and June Jones with bronze.
