The NSW government announced last Thursday that due to ongoing concerns about community COVID transmission, stay-at-home orders in place for regional NSW had been extended by two weeks, until at least 11.59pm on Friday, September, 10, in line with existing orders for the Greater Sydney area.
That decision forced Narrabri Touch to make a tough call of its own as it cut its finals series back from three weeks to one.
The Narrabri Touch committee advised team contacts last week that if the lockdown ends as hoped on September 10, it would host a grand final night for its winter mixed season on Monday, September 13.
Teams which placed first and second in their respective grades will compete in those deciders, but the teams ranked third and fourth have unfortunately been eliminated from the 2021 campaign.
“We apologise to those teams who came third and fourth but we feel this is our only option,” the Narrabri Touch committee said.
“We hope everyone enjoyed the winter competition and we thank you for playing touch.
“We hope you do understand our decision and fingers crossed, we do actually get to play our grand finals
“If the lockdown isn’t lifted, unfortunately that means no more winter touch.
“We are really hopeful that our summer competition can commence on Monday, October 11.”
The teams which will contest the five grand finals are: Sprayerbarn Spinouts and Agies (A-grade), Tapscott Pumpers and Win or Booze (B-grade), Rags and Dags and Tradies and Ladies (C-grade), Outback Snaccs and Kalyx Krusaders (D-grade), and Vaughany’s Pump House and The Replacements (E-grade).
